Riaz Mamdani

Calgary’s Strategic Group is one of Canada’s largest privately held real estate companies. Established in 2001 by founder and CEO, Riaz Mamdani, Strategic Group has steadily grown under Riaz’s leadership and is a company that now owns and manages properties across Canada. In addition to property development, ownership and management, Riaz has also expanded Strategic Group into a successful investment company with subsidiaries in a variety of industries including construction, building services, oilfield services, hospitality, pet care, agriculture technologies and corporate finance.    A graduate of the University of Manitoba’s science program, Riaz Mamdani used his pharmacology training to work as a hospital pharmacist while attending the University of Calgary’s law school. Earning his law degree in 1996, Riaz went on to practice commercial, corporate and securities law in Calgary, Alberta.   Following his work in the legal field, Riaz helped develop and launch two companies. These companies saw positive growth and prosperity, resulting in them becoming international multi-million dollar corporations listed on the NASDAQ National Market.    Riaz follows a simple mantra: “Creating value others can't, by seeing what others don't”.  True to his mantra, he is able to think outside the box and bring a different perspective whatever is on the table for discussion. .  This has led to high profile acquisitions for Strategic Group, including its current $130 million ‘One’project in Calgary’s beltline area. Obviously well-versed, in development, business and real estate current issues, Riaz is regularly asked to for his perspective by the media.   With a passion for community activism, Riaz Mamdani is constantly looking for ways to better his community in Calgary.  Last year he held one of the most successful Make-A-Wish Rope for Hope Campaigns in charity’s history. The Rope for Hope fundraising campaign sees Calgary professionals raise money to rappel down a skyscraper. Mamdani’s Toss Riaz! Fundraiser garnered him widespread attention and helped him raise over $74,000 for the foundation that grants wishes to critically ill children.   Riaz is also an ardent supporter of the Calgary Food Bank. In 2012, Riaz spearheaded the Strategic Group’s Lets Eat! Campaign, an annual city-wide food drive. In 2015, following a four-day food drive held at company headquarters and the property management offices owned by Strategic Group, Riaz was able to collect over 4,000 pounds of food and  matched cash donations collected.     Riaz is an avid supporter of the Alberta arts scene.  He and his family enjoy traveling and exploring the world together.
